Configure Cell Modems

To connect your Target to a Cell Network you must have an active sim card inserted into the target.

All commands to configure the target are done with the cm tool.

Configure Cell Connection

Run cm info to display the info about the sim including the FSN (serial number) and IMEI.

# cm info
Device: WP8548
IMEI: 123456789101112
FSN: 123456789
Firmware: SWI9X15Y_07.11.18.00 r33561 CARMD-EV-FRMWR1 2016/11/18 10:03:20
Bootloader: SWI9X15Y_07.11.18.00 r33561 CARMD-EV-FRMWR1 2016/11/18 10:03:20
priIdPn: XXXXXXX
priIdRev: 0X.XX
skuId: XXXXXXX

Next, run cm radio to display info about the mobile network that the SIM is registered on.

# cm radio
Power: ON
Current Network Operator: <your network operator>
Status: UMTS network (LE_MRC_RAT_UMTS)
Signal: Strong signal strength (4)

You will need to manually set the APN for your SIM card. Contact your Mobile carrier to find the APN settings that you will need.

Run cm data to display the current connection data and APN settings (APN should be blank).

# cm data
Index: 1
APN:
PDP Type: IPV4
Connected: no
Auth type: CHAP
User name:

To update the APN run:

# cm data apn <your apn>
# cm data # displays the settings for verification
Note
If your Mobile Carrier supports different APN's for 3G and LTE make sure your settings correspond to the correct network. For example, the WP8548 module only supports 3G and the APN for the 3G network needs to be used.

Connect to a Mobile Network

Run cm data connect &

Note
It may take a few minutes to connect; '&' will run the process in the background.

Once the device is connected the target will display:

Connected through interface 'rmnet0'

Disconnect to a Mobile Network

To disconnect, terminate the cm data connect background process by sending it a SIGTERM or SIGINT signal. This can be done using kill (SIGTERM) or by bringing the process back to the foreground and hitting CTRL-C (SIGINT).

# kill %1
#
[1]+ Terminated cm data connect

OR

# fg
